8 passengers hurt as bus flips near Toronto
TORONTO - A bus heading east into Toronto flipped over on a major artery late Monday afternoon, injuring several passengers.
Police said a brown and beige charter coach carrying 48 people, reported to be Mexican tourists, skidded off the highway and rolled over onto the medium of the Queen Elizabeth Way at about 5:15 p.m., just east of Burlington.
"There are some people injured but they are apparently non-life threatening injuries," said Sgt. Nathan Hele with the Ontario Provincial Police.
Video images from Global TV showed the bus laying on its side in the dirt in the median surrounded by emergency crews.
Another bus was dispatched to move the passengers from the scene of the accident.
Police say it had been snowing all day and highways were slippery. There were numerous accidents on the QEW, added Hele. Eastbound lanes temporarily were closed to traffic.
